THE FUTURE
Vision For Union Baptist Church - After
much prayer by the church, and a Leadership retreat to Cove Crest in November,
2000, God gave us a clear and distinctive vision for our
mission and purpose in this community. The vision He has given us is to a
ministry of evangelism
and outreach. We feel He wants us to be a spiritual epicenter
in this community.
In 2001 we implemented an outreach
program with the goal of "touching" every home within a three mile radius of our
church. "Touching" each home meant making a personal contact with at least
one person at that residence. Our objective was to share Christ with those
who were not saved and invite them to Union Baptist if they were
un-churched.
We have a burden to reach our
community for Jesus Christ. There are many lost people around us and it is
our desire to lead as many as possible to a saving knowledge of Christ.
We feel a tremendous excitement as we anticipate what God has in store for us in the years ahead. Our community is growing rapidly. New developments, both large and small, are being built all around us. In 2002 over 4,000 new homes were under development. We knew that ministering to the spiritual needs of those new families would present a great challenge for us. As we became aware of the plans for explosive growth in our area we recognized that our facilities were not adequate for the large influx of people that were coming to our community. These new families would need a church home and we wanted to be in a position to accommodate those that the Lord would send to Union Baptist. In order to
accommodate this announced growth we formed a Land Search
committee in January of 2001 to seek out a suitable piece of
land to accommodate the needs of our church for the rest of this century.
This committee consisted of Donald York, Chairman, Asher Galloway, Ray Tomlin, June
Harris, and Jerry Bowen.
Acquiring land was the first of
many big steps of faith. The church voted on October 3, 2001 to purchase
34.22 acres on North McDonough Road. The church affirmed the
vision, which included relocation, by a unanimous vote. The church
has been and continues to be very focused on the task before it and is being
careful not to lose sight of what the vision is. The vision is not a
piece of land. It is not a new facility. The vision for Union Baptist
Church is to be
an evangelistic church; a church of outreach; a spiritual epicenter
in this community.
Construction began on a new worship
facility on July 28, 2005 and was completed on May 17, 2006. The
dedication service was May 21, 2006.
One cannot help but see God’s grace and hand at work. He has delivered us from the brink of extinction and given us a vision for a glorious future. Yes, there are many challenges and unknowns ahead. What a great blessing to see the church united for the purpose of being all that God wants us to be in this community. Just as He doesn’t call us as individuals to do a task without equipping us, He doesn’t call us as a church to move forward without providing a way. The days ahead will be great opportunities to see God’s hand at work as we are faithful to Him. The Lord is doing great things in our midst and we believe this is only a sample of the blessings that lie ahead. The Lord is literally sending the world to our door. We want to be ready to minister to all that He sends our way. Get a glimpse of the vision! Catch the excitement! God
is at work among us.
